ECOffee
Coffee is the most consume beverage in the world. Research shows that there are about 400 millions cups downed each year. World coffee productions is estimated at 110- 120 millions bags per year making coffee the second most widely used product in the world. In an effort to create awareness on the effects of waste created daily, used coffee ground has been chosen as the beginning material for this project. An opportunity has been created for designer to explore on the second life of the coffee ground and to push the limits of what it can be further recycled. It allowed the designer to achieve not only the appearance and properties of the material but also the aroma fragrance of the coffee ground.
Sustainable practice can be seen anywhere in Singapore but yet there are still a large amount of wastage due to the heavy throwaway culture. Singapore is still living in the age of disposal whereby appreciated wasted were being thrown away instead of up cycling them as well as to reduce the amount of landfill wastage.
The main objective of the project have been achieved and the designer believed that products such as stool will instil the knowledge of sustainable practice and communicate to the public that unvalued materials can be manipulated and mass produced into something more alluring and practical.
